Poppy’s Story
She came to us alone. Her mother was gone and she was barely holding on. More than 300 ticks had taken hold of Poppy’s tiny body…stealing her strength, one by one, until she had almost nothing left to give.
For hours, our rescuer Vicki and vet Dr Elaine worked carefully and quietly, removing every single tick. Three hundred tiny battles, fought for one small life.
And she let us help her.
There’s something about an animal who still trusts, even when the world has been so scary and unkind. Poppy never gave up, and neither did we.
Like the flower she’s named for, Poppy is a symbol of resilience, survival, and the will to live. On this ANZAC Day, as we honour those who fought with courage and refused to surrender, we think her name suits her perfectly.
She is already starting to feel better. She is safe, warm and loved.
A heartfelt thank you to our incredible team, Vicki and Dr Elaine, whose gentle hands helped give this little wombat her fighting chance.

Update from Poppy’s carer… She reports that she is fierce, feisty and full of spirit. She charges around with the kind of determination that makes it clear she was always a fighter. Poppy grunts with satisfaction when dinner is served and she rules the house.
