Case Study Jasper
Jasper is an 11‑year‑old cat who arrived in our care on 1 May in a truly critical condition. He was found with multiple infected, open wounds across his body, many of which had become infested with maggots (warning: graphic photos). Despite the severity of his injuries, Jasper showed a quiet determination to survive.
Our veterinary team immediately began intensive treatment. His wounds were carefully cleaned, and he was placed on IV fluids, antibiotics and strong pain relief to stabilise him enough for surgery. Once he was strong enough, Jasper underwent a major procedure to debride and close the worst of his wounds.
As his assessment continued, it became clear just how much this gentle boy had been enduring. Jasper was found to have a partially collapsed lung, severe dental disease, and a dislocated hip that had been out of its socket for some time. Each issue required its own specialised treatment plan.
Jasper has now successfully completed his dental procedure, finally relieving him of the chronic pain caused by his damaged teeth. His next major step is scheduled for this week: a Femoral Head Ostectomy (FHO) a surgery that removes the ball‑shaped head and neck of the femur. Because his hip has been dislocated for so long, it cannot be corrected without this operation. The FHO will allow Jasper to move comfortably again and give him the chance to live without the constant pain he has quietly carried.
Through every moment of his recovery, Jasper has remained a smoochy, affectionate, cuddly boy who leans into every bit of kindness offered to him. After everything he has survived, he deserves nothing less than a happy, pain‑free life, and we are committed to giving him that future.
